A Taste of Home to Ease Homesickness Abroad

Posted on March 19th, 2014 by Bryanna Davis

Young adults studying abroad are often excited about experiencing new cultures and exploring the place they will call home for the next several years. However, once the boxes are unpacked and the pictures are hung on the wall, homesickness can settle in and have you missing many of your favorite things from home, especially home-cooked meals.

Attending school in a foreign country doesn’t mean you have to give up the comforts of home. Before boarding the plane, make sure to get your favorite recipes from mom or dad. If you are worrying about having the proper kitchen items to cook for yourself, no need to stress because CORT offers a wide selection of kitchen items that you can rent so you can completely outfit your apartment for all of your cooking and entertaining needs. From the bare essentials like utensils, cups and plates, to food processors and blenders, CORT has all you need to outfit your kitchen quickly and easily.

Consider hosting a recipe swap potluck dinner to get to know your fellow classmates. Invite each new friend to bring their favorite dish from home, so you can each grow your list of recipes for future meals and entertaining. Sharing dishes from different cultures will make the meal more enjoyable and it can help provide interesting conversation among guests.

With CORT’s Housewares Essentials, your kitchen can be fully equipped and ready to use from the moment you start unpacking.
