Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery (Green Card Lottery)
Posted on October 8th, 2010 by Jennifer FrankelThe entry period for the 2010 Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery program, otherwise known as the Green Card Lottery, is now open. The window to submit your application begins noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT -4), Tuesday, October 5, 2010, and ends noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT -4), Wednesday, November 3, 2010.
The lottery is described by the US Government as:
The Congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available 50,000 diversity visas (DV) annually, drawn from random selection among all entries to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
Essentially the lottery is a window for people from around the world to apply for a green card to work in the USA. There are some requirements such as:
- every diversity visa entrant must have at least a high school education or its equivalent or have, within the past five years, two years of work experience in an occupation requiring at least two years’ training or experience.
- natives of the following countries were not eligible to participate in DV-2010: Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born, excluding Hong Kong S.A.R., and Taiwan), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
If you meet the initial criteria, you are eligible to apply for the lottery – but beware! There are many scams surrounding the lottery program, and some even charge you to apply for the lottery. The lottery is free to apply and the main websites you will need to visit are:
Main Application Page (free of charge to apply) – http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/
More Detailed Information about the Lottery – http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1322.html
Keep to these websites, and good luck!

@admin: I must say your site is the first I’ve come across today that doesn’t have spelling errors every other line. Thanks for taking the time to construct something that doesn’t look like a 5th grader put together. Sorry, just had to vent.

If you just want to study in u.s. you don’t need green card. Get F1 visa, it’s assured and easier.
I heard applying to lottery makes it difficult to get F1 visa and/or working visa, since that implies you want to stay and live in u.s. even after you finish your education or business.

Most people want to be eco-friendly but for the most part at least currently sometimes going green technlogoy is not financially a good idea currently.I have looked at eco-friendlyand green technology alternatives like igo green charger and have adapted where it makes financial sense. So far I have also installed solar panels on my home but while looking for a electric car I find the cost doesnt justify it for me. While I am passionate about making green choices and opting for green technology whenever possible it is up to people like you and I to spread awareness and let the companies know there is a demand. Your website looks popular and I think you can help influence society with your insight and green technology tips. By the way I found your site by searching ” Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery (Green Card Lottery) « The International Student Blog ” and you were the first result. So I think your website is a perfect platform to discuss ideas that are thought provoking to help influence your readers to go green. – Good luck with your site, you deserve all the success! Please continue to talk about more eco-tips/green tech, every idea helps us get closer day by day!
