Northwest Missouri State University Programs for International Students

Each year, our friend and Northwest Missouri State University (NWMSU) International Involvement Center Director, Phil Hull, makes the trip overseas to meet some of you. This year, he was set to visit The Balkans region but because of COVID-19 he was forced to cancel all travel plans. He wanted us to pass along the message that he is disappointed he won’t be able to meet you this year but looks forward to hopefully meeting you sometime later on. In the meantime, go ahead and check out NWMSU’s excellent undergraduate and graduate programs to consider for your international education future!

Undergraduate Programs

NWMSU offers a wide variety of undergraduate programs. Here are some of the top programs offered to international students:

  • Business (Int’l Business, Economics, Accounting, Marketing, Management, Data Analytics)
    • For students interested in working in the world of business, starting their own small business, entrepreneurship, banking, finance etc.
  • Computer Science/Cybersecurity/Information Systems/Data Sciences
    • If you are a technologically inclined person, you should consider one of these majors.
  • Graphic Design
    • For creative students looking to gain knowledge and experience in the field of graphic design. This program has a 93% placement rate meaning that this percentage of graduates move on to find employment or continue education.
  • Nanoscale Sciences
    • Nanoscience is the study of structures in nanometer size which is smaller than cells but larger than most molecules. An ideal major for Pre-Med students.
  • Biological Sciences
    • For students interested in topics such as human anatomy and physiology. Another ideal major for Pre-Med students.
  • Emergency and Disaster Management
    • Students interested in humanitarian relief efforts should consider this major.
  • Agriculture
    • Interested in learning the fundamentals of the agriculture industry? NWMSU has several bachelor’s programs relating to this field.
  • Mathematics
    • Mathematics majors are for students interested in education, actuarial science, statistics, finance, etc.

Graduate Programs

NWMSU’s graduate school offers several master’s degree programs. Here are three of the top options offered to international students:

  • MS in Applied Computer Science
    • 16-month program that offers a hands-on, professional education in today’s high demand areas including big data, web and cross-platform mobile development, security and design of user experience.
    • Minimum GPA Requirement: 3.00
    • Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major or minor in a technical computing discipline.
    • Computer-Based TOEFL Requirement: 213
    • Internet-Based TOEFL Requirement: 71
    • Paper-Based TOEFL Requirement: 550
    • IELTS Requirement: 6.0
    • GRE Requirement: 290 or greater
  • MS in Information Systems
    • 16-month program that focuses on information systems analysis and design, cybersecurity, database design and development, human-computer interaction, financial decision making for information systems, business intelligence and management of IT projects.
    • Minimum GPA Requirement: 2.75
    • Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in information systems, computer science, business or engineering
    • Computer-Based TOEFL Requirement: 213
    • Internet-Based TOEFL Requirement: 79
    • Paper-Based TOEFL Requirement: 550
    • IELTS Requirement: 6.5
  • MBA (General Management)
    • Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in business should consider this MBA program.
    • Minimum GPA Requirement: 2.5
    • Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in business from an accredited university
    • Must meet a minimum of one of the following criteria:
      • Three years of continuous professional full-time work experience, OR
      • Three years of continuous full-time United States enlisted or commissioned military service, OR
      • Graduate degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, OR
      • A GMAT score of 440 or above, OR
      • An admission index of 1100 (undergraduate GPA x 200 + GMAT), OR
      • A GRE score of 285 or above, OR
      • An admission index of 965 (undergraduate GPA x 200 + GRE), OR
      • A 70th percentile on the Business Major Field Test score or above
    • Must meet one of the following English proficiency requirements:
      • TOEFL score of 550 (paper), 213 (computer) or 79/80 (Internet-based). OR
      • IELTS score of 6.5 OR
      • PTE score of 53
