What is a Virtual Student Fair and Why Should You Attend?
Posted on August 3rd, 2012 by Jennifer FrankelVirtual Student Fairs, or VSF as they are sometimes known, are growing in popularity at the moment among schools and students from all around the world. Officially they are described as a “full-service, online events in which international students and representatives of U.S. colleges and universities can meet and chat live through a cutting-edge technology platform.”
So what does that actually mean? In a nutshell, they are online college fairs that you can attend from the comfort of your own home. All you need is a computer, access to the internet and a registration, and you will be able to log onto the virtual fair website at the given time. The system is setup so that you just need to log into the website, and you are transported in a virtual student fair – online!
The benefits of the virtual student fair is that interested students that want to study in the USA have the opportunity to chat with admissions counselors from US schools in real time and visit virtual “e-booths” from each school. Students can also chat with other international students that attend the college or university, video chat with professors, get answers to questions, download university brochures and even win scholarships.
Most Virtual Student Fairs are broken up by region where the students live. As an example, Hobson’s has three regional fairs coming up for:
– Students from Asia (learn more)
– Students from Latin America (learn more)
– Students from the Middle East and Africa (learn more)
By splitting up the fairs like this, it allows students from each region to meet schools that are interested in recruiting students from their home country.
So why should I attend an Virtual Student Fair?
The VSF’s are a great way to meet with colleges and universities that are interested in recruiting you without the need to travel abroad or fairs in your home country. They allow you to get answers to your specific questions and even meet new friends. Also for attending, you will have the chance to win up to $3,000 in scholarships!

Hi Jill,
The virtual fair takes place online, so you are able to chat with colleges and universities from your own home. You can learn more and sign up here. I hope you find a school to attend!
