Universities in the USA have become a top educational choice for international students. With nearly 4,000 schools, its education system presents the largest universities in the world.

Grad schools are the common American term for universities and colleges in different levels of study.They are responsible for conferring advanced degrees, such as masters and doctoral levels (PhD). More than a million international students study at universities in the USA each year.

1. Harvard University

Harvard University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. It was first established in 1636. There are approximately 21,000 students enrolled, with about a quarter coming from other countries.

Harvard University is consistently regarded as one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the world.

In spite of the high cost of attendance, Harvard is able to provide a significant amount of financial assistance to its undergraduate and graduate students.

There have been eight presidents of the United States of America who graduated from Harvard, as well as 158 Nobel laureates, 14 Turing Award winners, and 62 living billionaires.

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

3. Yale University

Located in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale University is a private research institution and a proud associate of the Ivy League. It is among the oldest universities in the United States, being opened in 1701.

There are a total of 14 schools at Yale University, including the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the university’s 12 professional schools that grew out of the original undergraduate college.

The variety of cultures and ethnicities represented within the student body contributes to the vibrant campus atmosphere.

4. Stanford University

There have been many successful technology companies and start-ups formed by faculty members, students, and alumni of this institution.

Some of these companies include Google, Snapchat, and Hewlett-Packard. 22 per cent of the total student body of 16,000, the vast majority of whom live on campus, are from other countries.

Stanford University, which has its main campus in Palo Alto and is located in close proximity to Silicon Valley, has played a significant part in fostering the growth of the technology sector in the surrounding area.

Companies that were started by Stanford graduates generate a combined annual revenue of $2.7 trillion (£2.2 trillion).

Because the campus of the institution was constructed on the location of the Palo Alto stock farm that belonged to the Stanford family, it is sometimes referred to as “the Farm.” 

More than half of the campus’s 8,180 acres (3,300 hectares) of land is still undeveloped. Stanford’s campus is often regarded as one of the most beautiful universities in the world thanks to its signature sand-coloured, red-roofed buildings.

There are public meditation facilities, art museums, and sculpture gardens all located here.

5. University of Chicago

The year 1856 marks the beginning of its existence. The University of Chicago is a private institution with a focus on research that is situated in the heart of urban Chicago, which is the third most populous city in the United States.

Because of its location in Hyde Park, it provides students with a vibrant campus life inside the confines one of a major metropolitan area.

The university offers a variety of postgraduate programs, some of which are highly regarded, such as the Booth School of Business, the Pritzker School of Medicine, the Law School, and the Harris School of Public Policy Studies.

A great number of academic fields, including economics, law, sociology, and literary criticism, owe a significant amount of their growth to former students and faculty of the University.

6. Princeton University

Established in the year 1746, it is a non-public educational establishment. Both the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Princeton University provide graduate programs that are consistently regarded among the best in the world.

In addition to a variety of professional degrees, the university offers undergraduate and graduate education in the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and engineering.

7. Cornell University

It is a private research institution that is a member of the Ivy League and is located in the city of Ithaca in the state of New York. The year 1865 marks the beginning of the university’s existence.

Even though every graduate receives a degree from Cornell Institution, each undergraduate college and school within the university is responsible for its own student enrollment as well as the recruitment and retention of its own faculty.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences are the two undergraduate colleges at Cornell that have the highest enrollment numbers.

8. University of Pennsylvania

The University is a non-public educational establishment that first opened its doors in the year 1740.

The student life at the University of Pennsylvania provides a wealth of opportunities for students to learn about new areas of interest and develop existing ones.

These opportunities are available in the form of a wide variety of activities that span the political, social, religious, and cultural spheres.

It contains 12 schools, five of which offer studies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and seven of which offer exclusively studies at the graduate level.

9. Columbia University

The year 1754 marks the beginning of Columbia University’s existence. It is a university that focuses on research and is privately owned, and it is situated in New York City.

The university is comprised of a total of twenty schools, which include undergraduate schools such as the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, Columbia College, and the School of General Studies.

Along with graduate schools such as the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia Law School, Columbia Journalism School, and Columbia Business School, amongst others. 

10. California Institute of Technology (Caltech)   

The institute, which can be found in Pasadena, California, is a research and education organization that is famous all over the world in the fields of science and engineering.

As part of its aim to educate exceptional students to become innovative contributors to society, Caltech provides extraordinary opportunities for the study and performance of theatre, music, and the visual arts.
