Study in Idaho

Posted on July 31st, 2012 by Jenny Frankel

It takes an adventurous soul to come to a new country to study. An international student studying in Idaho will find that adventure beckons at every turn, or in this case, river bend.

Often called the “Whitewater State,” unofficially, whitewater rafting is one of the most popular sports in Idaho. There are over 3,000 miles of whitewater rafting, more than anywhere in the lower 48 states.

The season for whitewater rafting is April through November, which puts whitewater rafting in a perfect time frame for a back to school journey, an end of the school year celebration and, for those staying for summer, a memorable experience while studying in Idaho.

Whether you want to float down the river in a day, or take a grueling and heart pounding eight day voyage, there is something for every international student in Idaho.

There is always a chance that boaters can be tossed over the raft, where the water can be very cold. Warm clothes and life vests are necessary. However, choosing the correct difficulty level for your trip can diminish the chances of ending up in the water.

There are five different difficulty levels with one being for beginners and five for experts.

Rivers can take adventures through the Grand Canyon, around majestic waterfalls and past ancient ruins.

If you take a multi-day trip, camp out under the stars and on the shores of the river. Play sports, cook out and enjoy nature.

There are many rivers to choose from. Some of the most popular is the Salmon River. Known as “The River of No Return,” the Salmon River is the longest free-flowing river within one state in the lower 48 states.

Just a Google search with the keywords whitewater rafting in Idaho, gets curious international students hundreds of hits of companies who can help you plan your trip and guide you down the rivers of Idaho.
