Free Help on Campus

Posted on October 5th, 2013 by Bryanna Davis

Despite what many might think, becoming an international student and adjusting to a new country is not easy. Sure it’s fun and completely worth it, but it’s hard. From academics to daily life there are challenges that international students face- but it’s all part of the experience.

To help you with your adjustment and life as an international student, you should take advantage of the free help on campus. Here are just a few of the free services that your campus might offer!

  • Arrival Buddy: Arrival in your new host country can be scary! This is why many schools have a program in line for new international students. This often consists of picking you up from the airport or train station, taking you to your new apartment/residence hall, then showing you around campus. After a long trip this is a nice service to have- it’s something you should confirm before you arrive when it comes to free help on campus at your new school.
  • Shuttle: Many campuses are not within walking distance from a store- this is especially true if you decide to study in the US. Many have an on-campus convenient store but selection is usually limited and costs much more than at a grocery store. Check out if your school has a free shuttle, where it goes and how often it runs.
  • Language program: If you’re studying in a country that does not speak your first language and you’re not confident in your second language skills- see what’s available. There may be a language center or a student group that you can join to help improve your language skills.

Free help on campus will vary with each school, but almost every campus has some type of service that you can benefit from- you just need to find it. Check back later for more free help on campus ideas- a look at other resources that you might need later on in the semester!
