When In New Hampshire Do This…
Posted on May 31st, 2014 by Bryanna DavisAs one of the five states without sales tax, New Hampshire is a great example of “What you see is what you get,” but don’t worry, this state has much more to offer than a lower cost of living. The Granite State is known for its purple snow-capped mountains, beautiful lakes and rich history dating back to the 1880’s, offering the perfect location for a weekend getaway or a study abroad adventure.
During your stay, be sure to visit the tallest summit in the northeast, Mt. Washington. Historically known as the “Home of the Great Spirit,” hiking or taking a car to the top is practical, but taking the world’s first mountain-climbing cog railway is much more fun.
For a first-hand look into New Hampshire’s rich history, Canterbury Shaker Village offers a look into America in the 19th century. Tours outline the religious sect of the Shakers, their traditions, inventions and even food and drink preferences.
No trip is complete without a taste of the local cuisine, right? Spring is a perfect time to pick ripe strawberries and fall brings juicy apples, blueberries and fresh raspberries. Instead of heading to the local grocery store, try a local fruit stand out for size, or better yet, pick your own fruit right off of the branch at a local farm.
Between scenic mountains, delicious home-style cooking and the record for the world’s largest meatball (weighing in at 222 lbs), New Hampshire has something to interest every international student.
