International Education Week
Posted on November 2nd, 2010 by Jennifer FrankelInternationalStudent.com is gearing up for International Education Week beginning November 15th. As a collaborative effort by the US State Department and the US Department of Education, this initiative promotes programs that prepare students for the global environment and attract future leaders to study, learn, and exchange experiences.
Every day, international education is becoming more important as communication, infrastructure, business, and technology bring communities together from all around the world. The importance of international education has not been missed by universities and schools; institutions are now placing more of an emphasis than ever before on study abroad, summer overseas, gap year, and exchange programs that give students a unique overseas experience. For many, studying abroad is a positive experience, where students come home with a new understanding, passion, and knowledge that is not easily learned in the classroom.
In celebration of International Education Week, there will be a host of activities going on all around the world. To find an activity nearby, the State Department has organized a list of events which you can attend to support international education and there is even an option where you can add your own event! Some of the highlights include:
- The University of Texas at Austin will be hosting Foreign Film Night along with World Trivia
- George Mason University will have presentations on international issues that are on the top of the agenda in world news
- Centro Colombo Americano, Barranquilla-Colombia features conferences that discuss education programs including intense English, exchange programs, and explain the visa and educational system in the US
Additionally, one popular publication that highlights trends in international education will also be released this week. The Open Doors report by the Institute of International Education (IIE) will be publishing their annual statistics on international students in the US. We anticipate an increase in students studying overseas as more students are taking advantage of such an incredible opportunity.
Not only this, but InternationalStudent.com will be announcing the winner for the Travel Video as well. We have received many great videos, and this year looks to be a hard decision yet again!
We look forward to celebrating International Education Week with you as we continue to promote international education in the US and all around the world.

Funny you mention it, considering I’ve thought about doing this lately. I don’t get a ton of comments, but I’ve changed the way I think about blogging and in some cases, comments can become a distraction.
