Top Universities in the World

Posted on January 3rd, 2013 by Jenny Frankel

One of the most important factors to consider when deciding where to study abroad is the quality of schools. A country might have an amazing climate and all sorts of cultural attractions, but if the universities aren’t good then what’s the point?

For those international students curious about how different universities in different countries rank, the website QS Intelligence Unit recently compiled a list of the top universities in the world. The survey included 700 schools and evaluated each one on six criteria: Academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty to student ration, proportion of international students, and proportion of international faulty. Overall, the United States at the top, winning 15 of the top 20 schools and 85 of the top 400, including Harvard, MIT, Yale, University of Chicago, and University of Pennsylvania.

The study also broke the top universities down by subject and, again, the US ended up on top with every subject. If you are interested in studying economics in the US, then you’ll be happy to know that 7 of the 10 best schools in the world are here. Also, in fields of philosophy and physics, 6 of the top 10 ranked schools are in the US as well as 8 out of the 10 best schools for people majoring in history. The list goes on much the same for every major.

If you are considering studying abroad and you want the chance to study at some of the best schools in the world, then the place to study is obvious. The US is filled with hundreds of amazing schools to choose from, including some of the top universities in the world. This means that no matter what subject you decide to study, if you’re in the US, you’re in the right place.
