Tennessee Festivals

Posted on August 16th, 2011 by Jenny Frankel

International students get a bonus if they choose to study in Tennessee because they are able to attend some of the major music and food festivals throughout Tennessee during the school year. Tennessee has a wide variety of festivals and fares in the summer months, which is great if international students want to take a trip over the ocean to visit prospective Tennessee colleges or universities.

In July, Tennessee hosts the Sunflower Festival that has live music from dawn to dusk, home-cooked food, and entertainment. Generally hosted in July, the Sunflower Festival is an all day event that has been around for seven years. It is held in Mountain City, Tennessee and there will be a beauty pageant for aspiring debutants and a quilt show where women can show off their craft.

In late August there is a two-day festival called the Music City Festival and BBQ Championship. It is supposed to be held on August 26th through August 27th. There is a barbecue challenge and only one can win the championship. The Music City Festival will have a “Swine Ball” where all guest must adorn a pig nose, attendants can participate in a “hog calling” contest if they choose to do so. People can register their antique cars to participate in the Car Show. The grand prizewinner of the car show will take home one thousand dollars. Other prizes and money awards will also be given out at the car show for participants.

On the first day of October, Tennessee hosts a National Banana Pudding Festival. There will be a cook off in which contestants compete to see which one really can make the all time best banana pudding. It will be held in Centerville, Tennessee. People come from all over the nation and all over the globe to try some of this banana pudding, only the truest of chefs can win the prize.

International students can get a taste of country, music, food, and dessert in Tennessee. Perhaps, prospective students should chart their course and head over the big blue ocean to check out some of these Tennessee original festivals.
