Make 2014 Your Best Year Yet!

Posted on December 27th, 2013 by Bryanna Davis

NY176905766Ready or not- the New Year is here! For some of you this might only mean a handful of new classes, but for many it means much more. The New Year is a great time to change old ways and incorporate completely new habits! Out with the old and in with the new- let’s get started and make 2014 your best year yet!

The first step toward improvement is finding what you want to improve upon. Make a general list of areas in your life that you would like to improve. For example: getting into shape, studying abroad, finding a job or perfecting your English. Once you have your general list-  get more specific. More than likely you already knew the things in your life you wanted to improve upon, now it’s time to get a plan and put it into action. Next to the improvement you want to see, list the action item you must take to see the change. Your list should look like this:

Improvement: Getting into shape
Action: Go to the gym four times a week for one hour

Improvement: Studying Abroad
Action: Find a school I want to study abroad at, get the funding needed, and actually apply

Improvement: Finding a job
Action: Re-vamp my resume, spend two hours each day searching new job listings and applying, attend one job fair each month

Improvement: Perfect my English
Action: Enroll in an ESL program, make an agreement to only speak in English with my other ESL friends

Keep in mind that you want your action items to be something achievable, yet will show progress toward your improvement. Remember that you have a whole year to see change, so if it doesn’t happen in the first week- stick with it! It typically takes 21 days for something to become a “habit” or part of your routine, so don’t give up! Get started on your list and make 2014 your best year yet!
