Terrorism and International Education

Posted on July 5th, 2007 by admin

As all the media publicity starts to die away after the recent thwarted terror attacks in London, and the attack that took place in Scotland, I wanted to touch on the subject of how this will affect international education and students going to the UK to study.

From our recent newsletter that we sent out, we have highlighted a story showing a school in the USA who are still planning to partake in their study abroad programs to the UK, however I am sure there are probably just as many people that are looking and willing to cancel their travel arrangements.

We all know that the only way to combat terrorism is to stand up to them, and not let them affect our daily life – and the reasons we have terrorism are too deep to talk about in this posting. But I would be interested to hear from international students around the world and your thoughts on how the terror attacks are changing things for them. Are you planning to keep away from the UK as it has been hit twice in as many years, are you not bothered and still want to study there.

I would also like to hear from any study abroad or international education specialists who may read this blog – what do you think about the attacks? Has it changed anything?

Please post your comments…..

The terrorism incidents in the UK and around the world have been disturbing, but I have not once reconsidered my plans to Study Abroad in the UK. My travel from Australia to the UK is taking place in September – had it been earlier I may have considered delaying. I don’t believe that our lives should be rearranged to suit the political climate overseas. That being said, family members have expressed concern over the incidents, but have not tried to persuade me from going. I hate to see what freedoms we will have left when we can no longer experience the exciment of overseas travel.

Interesting blog, students always need more resources to aid their plans to study internationally. Well done =)

I totally agree. It is disturbing but we should not let it stops us to learn and experience all the good things that comes with studying abroad. I am studying in the U.S and I love it. I am not afraid. I don’t even think about it.
By the way… about the insurance… I have my student insurance and couldn’t be happy. I’ve seen two doctors without worrying about money. It is great.

    This blog is great

I am enjoying my grad study in the US. The people are friendly but do not prefer to go to the UK. Yes terrorism has a bad spot light on International Education. The world will continue to suffer unless something has to be done. We condemn terrorism as it affects our life.

If we want quality education nothing should stop us from our plans of studying abroad or international… Scott Joseph is absolutely right. Terrorist is already a common problem in every country and it is something very impossible to beat. If we fear too much then we can never go on with our lives. Terrorism should not stop us from reaching our plans in life.

Terrorism is getting worst each day. It is just lately when I heard of this travel advisory again alarming people about possible terrorist attack. Such a dangerous world we have and such an evil mind to threaten world safety. The one who enjoys this terrorism activity is fearless and those who are fearless are evil.
