Promising future…..

Posted on July 27th, 2005 by InternationalStudentGuru

Its been just under a week since I last blogged. Things have been very busy whilst I have my 2 week whistle stop tour of the USA. One thing that has been very promising since I have been over is the growth I am seeing at various schools on my travels. A year ago, some schools were suffering from poor attendance, all which can be related to certain immigration changes that have made it very restrictive for students coming to the USA.

Most of the schools I have been to, and am hearing from are reporting record levels of student enrollment, especially for ESL programs which is a great sign. There has been a lot of advocacy from the AAIEP (American Association of Intensive English Programs) to relax laws and it appears to be working.

I hope this trend keeps going.

Also, there has been rumours that I may be making an appearance on the FinancialAidNews Podcast:

That is if Chris can convince me to make an appearance!

Till next time…..

London hit again?

Posted on July 21st, 2005 by InternationalStudentGuru

It appears there has been some form of attack in London again. We hope this has not affected any students who are currently in London but feel free to share your thoughts with us.

Like I have said before terrorism will never prevail!!!

Jumping across the pond!

Posted on July 20th, 2005 by InternationalStudentGuru

Whoever said travelling was a chore? Just spend the day travelling from London to Boston, USA (not Boston Lincolnshire as so many people keep saying to me recently) and it was the easiest thing. Just over 6 hours in the plane, and then no hassles at USA immigration (which I must say is a first for me) although it would have been nice for him to reply to my intial “hello, how are you today?”. I guess we have to take baby steps…..;)

However, what I am not liking is the USA weather, 90 plus with 100% humidity! What is going on - bring back English weather of dull rainy days when it struggles to get over 50 degrees!

Anyway, I am now in the USA (again) for the next couples of weeks and so will be blogging from here!

Laters!

Start of the week

Posted on July 18th, 2005 by InternationalStudentGuru

I have not blogged in a few days, so thought I would start the week as I meant to go on. Our sister blogger at Financial Aid News seems to blog about 5 times a day, I guess some of us have work to do and others not ;)

Anyway, we are now fully settled at our new home at:

http://www.InternationalStudent.com/blog

and there has been rumblings that a podcast for international students may be coming along soon - watch this space.

We also want to get your comments and feedback from our blog - so get submitting!

Cheers

2 Minute Silence

Posted on July 14th, 2005 by InternationalStudentGuru

At Midday, the 14th July 2005 there will be a 2 minute silence to show our respect and support to those that have been killed or injured in the London Attacks that took place exactly one week ago now. I hope you will all take 2 minutes out of your day, stop what your doing and just reflect on the events and on how we can build a better world for us all…..

Thanks

Emergency contact campaign starts

Posted on July 11th, 2005 by InternationalStudentGuru

One thing that I found from all the London bomb coverage is the innovative campaign for all those living in the UK. The UK Ambulance authority are encouraging us to add in the contact “ICE” to your phone so if you are in an emergency, they can look in your phone for the ICE contact and call them

London Attacks

Posted on July 11th, 2005 by InternationalStudentGuru

We are all deeply saddened by the recent attacks in London, and coming from London myself this has hit home the very real threat that terrorists pose to us, no matter where you are in the world!

However, saying that terrorists and what they do will never win!! It is events like those that have happened in London last week and September 11th that will spur us on to educate the world and grow understanding of different cultures and religions.

I encourage you all to further your knowledge and understanding of the world by studying abroad, or simply travelling abroad.

Terrorists will never prevail!
